White Wagtail | The elegant bird in constant motion
As small as they are elegant, these insectivorous birds are commonly known as the 'little snow bird' because their arrival signals the beginning of the winter months and colder weather. With many subspecies and a wide distribution over a range of habitats, their curious habit of constant tail-wagging has given the species their common name. In some regions of Germany white wagtails are considered the symbol of innkeepers due to an ancient folk lore that says if you feed one of these birds then they will show their gratitude by guiding inebriated clients safely home.
