Energy
Switch on the lights! | The show must go on…
The Roman Goddess of Dawn "Aurora” provided the inspiration for the naming of this spectacular dance of luminous colours. The Auroras are produced when emissions from the Sun of energetic charged particles are deflected towards the poles by the Earth’s magnetic field. Collisions between these particles and atoms of oxygen and nitrogen in the Earth’s atmosphere cause an energy release that gives rise to the spellbinding dance of intense radiant green, violet and red lights that are the aurora borealis and the aurora australis. After coming across some “cheesy triangle” ice blocks and with a distant mountain providing a stunning background, the aurora borealis or "northern lights" appeared after five cold nights like a green rainbow over this Fjallsárlón glacial lake.
